Dr. Jason McVicar

Jason is a Métis anesthesiologist from Manitoba. He trained at the University of Manitoba, Queen’s University, and completed a fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. He practiced at The Ottawa Hospital for a decade before moving to Kamloops.

Dr. McVicar has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières, served as a trustee for the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation, and completed a public policy fellowship with Action Canada. He was the lead author on two CMAJ studies on surgical outcomes for Indigenous Peoples in Canada and received the 2025 Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society Humanitarian Award.

He holds leadership roles in multiple organizations, including the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists Pain Committee, the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Circle at The Ottawa Hospital, and the Collaborative Advisory Group for Rural Anesthesia. He also chairs the Global and Rural Health Committee for the Academic Canadian Universities Departments of Anesthesia.

He is father of two loud children, a clumsy skier, subpar golfer (meaning he often shoots in triple digits when keeping score) and mediocre photographer.

Dr. Robert Jee

Rob is an anesthesiologist with over a decade of experience in perioperative care, obstetric anesthesia, and academic leadership. He is currently an active staff member at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, British Columbia, where he also serves on the Anesthesia Executive Committee. Before relocating to Kamloops in 2024, Dr. Jee spent ten years at The Ottawa Hospital, where he held multiple leadership roles, including Obstetric Anesthesia Lead and Chair of the Alternate Funding Committee. His expertise extends to medical education, having served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa’s Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

Dr. Jee completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Ottawa, followed by a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at the University of British Columbia. His research contributions include publications on anesthesia management in obstetrics, competency-based medical education, and perioperative patient safety. Recognized for his excellence in clinical care, he was a recipient of The Ottawa Hospital Physician Clinician Recognition Award. With a strong commitment to advancing anesthetic practice and patient care, Dr. Jee continues to be an active contributor to both hospital-based anesthesia and medical education.

Outside of work, Dr. Jee enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, skiing in the winter, and making the most of Kamloops’ outdoor lifestyle. However, his true obsession is golf—he maintains a single-digit handicap and is constantly chasing the ever-elusive perfect round. When not in the OR, he can usually be found on the course, analyzing his swing, regretting missed putts, and convincing himself that the next piece of golf equipment will finally fix his game.

Despite an enjoyable year there, he moved west to Kamloops the following year in 2018 where he has been since. He has an interest in acute and chronic pain, regional anesthesia, quality improvement and departmental leadership, and the use of anesthetic and other agents for psychiatric disorders. In his spare time, he likes to travel, eat out at fancy places, biking, reading and gaming.

His professional interests include brain health following general anesthesia, point of care ultrasound in the operating room, and regional anesthesia. Medicine is a second career for Dr. Williams. He started his professional career in veterinary medicine. Following graduation, and while training as a large animal surgeon, workplace injury prompted a shift towards research. This led to a PhD in biomedical science and then on to medical school.  Dr. Williams and his wife Christine have 4 children who are enjoying the outdoor lifestyle and warm winters that Kamloops offer. In their “spare time” the Williams family enjoy hiking, camping, and canoeing together as a family.
